Woodward Dream Cruise began in 1995 as a small fundraiser to raise enough funds for a children’s soccer field in Ferndale, Michigan. Intended as a one-day event for the utmost 30,000 spectators, the event attracted an impressive crowd of over 250,000! Afterward, a group of classic car enthusiasts made it an annual event to relive the fun of the ’50s and ’60s, when music and trendy cars ruled Woodward Avenue. The Woodward Dream Cruise spans much of Woodward Avenue.
